The International Airport in Balice near Krakow is the second airport in terms of passenger service in Poland. In 1995, it was named after Pope John Paul II. It was the airport, where the ceremonies of greeting or farewell to the Holy Father were held very often on the occasion of his pilgrimages to his motherland. In the lobby, there is the bas-relief dedicated to the Pope. The object is located on the route “In the Footsteps of John Paul II in Krakow”.

The International Airport located in Balice near Kraków is the largest regional airport in Poland.

The zone served by the airport covers the south-eastern region of Poland, with about 7.9 million people living within a radius of 100 kilometres. 

The Airport hosts the Aviation Education Centre – a unique educational centre which showcases the organisation and operations of the facility.  In 2019, it was certified by the Polish Tourism Organisation after winning the contest for the ‘Best Tourist Product’.

In 2019, the Kraków-Balice International Airport has set an absolute record in the history of Polish regional airports, serving 8.4 million passengers throughout the year.
