Oświęcim is a city of contrasts. It has a glorious but complicated history. Oświęcim is known worldwide, above all as the site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration and extermination camp, a vastness of misery and death replete with the ruins of the gas chambers, crematoria and wooden barracks. The one-time concentration camp is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and museum.

It is also a City of Peace and Dialogue. It is a meeting place for people of different nationalities, beliefs and faiths – Jews and Catholics had coexisted peacefully there for centuries. Today, visitors can see here, among other things, a unique collection of monumental murals alluding to the peaceful message of Life Festival Oświęcim. An impressive reminder of Oświęcim's ancient princely past is the castle which, like the old Market Square, sits high above the Soła River flowing at its foot.
And what will we see in the region? It offers the enchanting Carp Valley and the protected Natura 2000 areas – a sanctuary for wild birds and tasty carp, a land of picturesque fields, meadows, fish ponds, floodplains and meandering rivers. Numerous hiking trails and excellent cycle routes await you here. You can go canoeing, admire unique wooden architecture, beautiful castles and chateaux... This land is known for its extraordinary and extreme amusement parks, home to Europe's highest and fastest megacoaster!

The Tourist Information Centre (CIT) handles tourist traffic and promotes Oświęcim and the region.  Here, the most expert information is provided, free materials (guides, folders, leaflets, maps and plans) are made available, accommodation and catering facilities are recorded, and multimedia information kiosks are operated throughout Oświęcim. The Centre cooperates with national as well as international institutions, including through youth exchange programmes.

The Centre also maintains a highly developed website. It provides information on what to see and do in Oświęcim and its surroundings, where to find accommodation and something delicious to eat. It also offers the most up-to-date information on events in the region, as well as virtual walks and photo galleries.  Here you can get information about local institutions, transport, parking, car rental, exchange offices, ATMs, laundries and shops.

The CIT office located close  to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration and extermination camp from the Second World War, offers assistance to all those who wish to visit the camp. Since 2018, it has also run a tourist information point in the building of the 19th-century Town Hall at 2 Rynek Główny (Market Square) (it.ratusz@mosir.oswiecim.pl).

The Oświęcim Tourist Information Centre operates as part of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre. Since 2011, it has been part of the Małopolska Tourist Information System network.
